Patrick Autréaux is a French writer who has held appointments as a writer-in-residence at Boston University and a visiting scholar at MIT. He is the author of eight novels, all published by Gallimard and Verdier. His most recent one was short-listed for the 2019 Décembre and Femina prizes. While studying medicine and anthropology, he published poetry and contemporary art reviews. After practicing as an emergency-room psychiatrist, he dedicated himself entirely to writing. The view of illness as an inner experience informs his first writing cycle. In the Valley of Tears (UIT Books) is his first book translated in English.
